Sikhs across Aotearoa are offering up rooms in their homes for self-isolation to returning migrants when border restrictions are relaxed next month.
Supreme Sikh Society of New Zealand spokesman Daljit Singh says he heard that migrants on temporary work visas, who returned home during the pandemic for emergency reasons, were having difficulty finding places to self-isolate on their return.
In the past week, the Society has made arrangements to accommodate 80 returning families, and organised for 25 gurdwara (Sikh temple) to distribute food parcels to returnees as they self-isolate.
